De Goede Hoop Farmstead at Lemoenpoort
Escape to country living at its best and enjoy true Boland hospitality on one of the oldest wine farms in the The Breede Valley.
Classic farm-house architecture meets contemporary living
In the ‘waterblommetjie’ season (late August-September), depending on availability, guests can experience the true Boland activity of picking fresh waterblommetjies in the Draaivlei wetland. This is a very fun activity (especially for kids) but the water tends to be quite cold so we do recommend coming prepared with extra dry clothes, or even a wetsuit.
Cost: The experience is free, but to take your waterblommetjies home will be charged at R40/kg. A farm representative will guide you through the process of picking the waterblommetjies and should you like, the waterblommetjies you harvested can be cleaned at an extra cost of R10/kg.
Fishing
During the summer months, freshwater fishing enthusiasts can look forward to the opportunity to catch a large-mouth Black Bass straight from our farm dam. Other nearby fishing spots include the Breede River or Quaggaskloof Dam, both of which are located on private property and will require special permission from the owners. Please contact your host Christine Viljoen for more information.
Sunset Game Drives
Game drives are available on a pre-booked basis on Saturdays. Depending on the season, game drives will start at approximately 16h00 in the winter and later in the summer. The duration of the game drive is 2 hours and guests can enjoy sightings of black wildebeest, gemsbuck, sables, red hartebeest, impala, zebra, and springbuck. The excursion ends with a cheese and wine picnic at a lookout point from which to enjoy the beautiful Stettyn Mountains sunset. Our wildlife offering is a joint venture between Lemoenpoort and our neighbouring farm, which gives our game the freedom of roaming across both farms.
Cost: Adults: R250 per person | Children 12 and under: R180 per person. Please note that all bookings should be made at least one day in advance, before 17h00.
Mountain Biking
Our ideal location offers a variety of mountain biking routes on and off the farm that can be enjoyed by the entire family. From easier and shorter routes through the vineyards and orchards (ideal for families) to jeep and singletrack routes for the more adventurous rider, the terrain caters to every cyclist.
For riders who want to explore further afield, longer circular routes are also available to pursue in the surrounding area.
Bird-Watching
De Goede Hoop Farmstead is situated close to a wetland, named Draaivlei, which attracts a large variety of bird species in the area. This is also where you will find the “waterblommetjie” flower during spring.
