Karoo Desert National Botanical Garden
Place Categories: Hiking/Trail Run Routes Nature Reserves Things to do
Home to South Africa’s succulent plant diversity. The garden conserves and displays plants of the arid and semi-arid regions of southern Africa, with the main focus on succulents. The 154-hectare garden lies at the foot of the Hex River Mountain Range with three hiking trails, a plant sales nursery and a large lawn for picnics. The most popular time of the year to visit the garden is in spring when the annuals and vygies (mesembs) are in flower.
Features: The Garden is open every day of the year from 7 am to 6 pm. It features cultivated beds with various paths leading through it and must-see areas include a man-made quiver tree forest and the traditional Nama huts. A new braille trail will open soon that is wheelchair-friendly and features poems about the Karoo.
