The memorial garden on the huge town square, located in the centre of town, right opposite the famous “Moederkerk” is a good starting point. From here, the historical buildings, including many gabled buildings on Church Street, can easily be explored by foot. The numerous coffee shops along this street will come in handy for breakfast and lunch. Be sure to chat to the locals at the various coffee houses, they might just share some interesting tips and secrets on how to get the best out of the region. Art lovers will enjoy the work of renowned artists Hugo Naude and Jean Weltz at a gallery displaying most of their original pieces. Thrill seekers and outdoor enthusiasts are spoiled for choice. From gliding the big blue sky and exploring from above to kayaking the Breede River or Kite Surfing Brandvlei / Kwaggaskloof dam. Mountain bikers, trail runners and hikers can choose between trails winding through beautiful Fynbos or even a bit more Karoo like vegetation to the north of the town. If you love nature, make sure you visit the Karoo National Botanical Gardens. From June to October it is beautiful and colourful when the aloes, vygies and Namakwa Daisies are in full bloom. Golfers will be thrilled with the 18 hole Gary Player designed golf course. The setting makes for beautiful views and an overall amazing experience.
Of course, there is wine, and lots of it too… We are in the heart of the Cape Winelands and you can pick and choose when it comes to visiting wine cellars. But wine is not all we’ve got. Craft breweries and distilleries are to be found on various roads leading from Worcester into the country side. This fertile region also brings you a variety of extra virgin olive oils, a huge selection of table grape and soft fruit farming, as well as the Boland’s signature ingredient; Waterblommetjies. If you have not yet tried Waterblommetjie stew, be sure to try this regional delicacy when you are visiting the Boland.
Once you have explored everything our area has to offer, you do not even have to pack up and go, you can explore up to six surrounding smaller towns by doing a daytrip to one of them each day.
Care Capital
Both the National Institute for the Deaf and Innovation for the Blind calls Worcester home. You will definitely change your outlook on life after paying these two establishments a visit. It is inspiring and humbling at the same time and we are proud to carry the title “Care Capital of South Africa”.
